The linden tree (Tilia sp.) is a large, long-lived tree with a delicate fragrance, after which many streets and squares are named. It thrives in fertile, deeper soil and a mild climate, so it can be found in parks, avenues and forests all over Croatia – especially in the northern and central regions. When the linden blossoms, the air fills with its distinctive sweet, slightly minty scent.
During flowering, bees eagerly visit the linden blossoms rich in nectar and turn them into highly valued linden honey. Thanks to its characteristic aroma and traditional link with herbal teas for relaxation and colds, linden honey is a staple in many home “remedies”.
Linden honey is ideal for anyone looking for a classic “tea honey” with a pronounced aroma. It is most often enjoyed in warm (not too hot) tea, on its own by the spoonful or as part of breakfast. As with other types of honey, it is not recommended for children under one year of age.
